Invincible Music Composer

 Invincible Music Composer

I am taking this opportunity to write a few words about Ilayaraaja, a great south Indian music composer. He excelled all boundaries with his film music and there are innumerable fans across all India. Of course, he has given concerts on the prestigious platforms like Albert hall in London. At the same time, he has given sizzling music to the films, prominently Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada movies. And few Hindi movies like Sadma. He has great fanbase almost in every south Indian state. It's very rare having such fanbase as a popular film hero usually does have.

What makes him so special ? With what quality of music composition he gained that iconic position..? Well, his forte is experimentation, newness, variety whatever you say. Ilayaraaja brought that with his very first film, In Tamil Annakili and in Telugu Bhadrakali. In fact, I started listening to Tamil movie songs for enjoying his way of composition. Whatever the instrument, that sounds with his own signature. Orchestration fills with experimentation. Chorus in the songs is heavenly. I can give you number of examples but one post is not sufficient for it only.

In his 45 years of film music life, composed 7000 songs. Folk , classical,  Western and many other traditions have happily blended in his compositions. In my opinion, In Indian film music, his entry influenced many music directors. We better compare it as after and before Ilayaraaja. I won't give the account of my favorite songs here. Because there is nothing I dislike whatever come from him. Anyway I will post a video of some of his ever lasting compositions.

Z.Veerabhadra puram

 Z For Z. Veerabhadra puram

I have surprised when I first heard the name of that village. Z.Veerabhadra puram. Why did the prefix Z get included in the village's name..? That village situated in a remote area of Bhadrachalam division. Before 1959, all this area was in the part of East Godavari district of Andhra pradesh. Later on, which had been a part of Khammam district. With bifurcation, this place got into Telangana state. Inter state border villages have a strange advantage with surfacing two kinds of cultures and accents.

Well, let me tell you about the Z story. In the time of British ruling, say, before 1940s, some villages were auctioned to the public to procure revenue. Only Zamindars who belonged to upper strata could secure such villages by paying auction money. It was then called Zamindar Veerabhadra puram, briefly Z. Veerabhadra puram. Interestingly, there is another village beside it and which is called K.Veerabhadra puram. K is for Koya, the local tribe's name. Here I am giving you two pics that will lead to both the villages.

YouTube sensation

#Y For YouTube

Youtube channel is the easiest way to reach out. Whatever content you are with can be shared by outside world. The visual world in short. How simple it became to shoot your chosen action at your finger tips and spread the content even by putting it in our status of whatsapp. If it's good, it can go to the places where you never think in our wildest dreams. Small time artists achieved big success irrespective of the language the video was made of.

One such example is "bullettu bandi" video song given in this post. Though the song is in Telugu (Telangana slang), it has been a super hit crashing all language barriers. Singer was Mohana Bhogaraju with base tone entered almost all states in our country by having 368 Millions of views. Comments poured by the viewers tell us many things. If the song and the way it conceived is appealing, every music lover listens it again and again. In fact, the theme of this song is very simple, just describing the dreams of a village girl and the bondage with the place and her parents and relatives.

Go through the song. You just love it.

Xanadu Hotel

 #X for Xanadu

First, I came across this (Xanadu) word in a novel written by Mario Puzo. Title "Fools Die", published around 1978. Xanadu was a luxurious hotel in Las Vegas where gambling was in full swing. I thought that word Xanadu was derived from some European language. But to my amazement the word belonged to Mangolian background. Xanadu was the summer capital of Kublai Khan's empire in China. Xanadu denotes an  opulent and luxurious place. But got more popular by the writings of Samuel Taylor.

In the novel, Four Gamblers like Cully Cross, John Merlyn, Jordan and other one met  in the hotel and made fortunes in the gambling one night. The same night Jordan committed suicide after having earned more money. His suicide was not of any foul play. There were many twists and all they are worth reading. Xanadu hotel boss Gronovelt was on a different mission to swindle more money from a Japanese business tycoon. He offered Xanadu hotel to his manager on one condition which was in part of his master plan. That's how story would be going on.

Watermelon

 #W For Watermelon

Summer arrived. With changing seasons, some fruits follow the law of nature to come in the particular season. If we understand rightly, nature provides us seasonal fruits. They will do good for our body and mind. That's why having the fruits is one sure way to keep up our sound health. Whenever summer comes, I personally like to gorge on watermelon, I love the taste, color and cool quality of the fruit. Watermelon is full of antioxidants and nutrients. Also supports us with variety of vitamins like A and C.

Toda's Model Hut

    #T For Toda's model hut

The above is the model of Toda tribe's hut. Taken it when I visited Udagamandalam  or Ooty of Tamil nadu state. There was a large fair in the botanical gardens and it was also a part of that fair. Toda tribal people live in the Nilgiris district. They have their own distinctive culture. Be it handicrafts or cloths or food or in the matter of hut making which is evident as we're seeing in the pic. People were also purchasing some herbal medicines from the stall. This model hut was created by the state government of Tamil nadu to showcase the special entity of Nilgiris.

Stray Dog in front of our house

#S For Stray Dog in front of our house

I don't have any pets for the last three decades. That doesn't mean I hate pets. I grew up a dog in my college days. It was so faithful and loving. Literally, it has become our family member. Sometimes I skipped my journeys to look after the dog, because our Tiger (Name of our dog) wouldn't eat or drink from the hands of others. That's why small sacrifices like that made by me with affection. What a beautiful scene it was our Tiger kept moving it's tail soon after seeing me not only that love plus respect both would get reflected in the kind looking eyes of our Tiger. Clueless to this very day, Our Tiger vanished one morning without making any barking sounds. It was a great mystery where our loving creature had gone. I became tearful for many days. My heart shattered. On that very day, I had taken a decision to have not grown any dogs in the future. Because bonding between the dog and the human being is greater than any other so called love. We can't withstand it's absence or death or missing for any reason.

(Our Bruce taking rest on the sandheap, brought for a wall construction)

After all these years, a stray dog won my heart with its good behavior and discipline. Two months back (roughly) a dog was wondering in our street and when raining , it was taking a small place from our vehicle parking lot to shelter itself . It keeps aside standing whenever I started my vehicle, created no obstacle to my departure. Not only that, it stood and move aside whenever my vehicle come in. Seeing very kindly towards me. It's purely a stray dog but how gently it behaves when we have a drop of sympathy. With all our busy life, we ignore small and subtle signs of animals. In fact, humans have to learn a lot from them. Love excels all. It reminded me the Bible word.

Amused. One day I thought of its life style. That dog goes out around six o'clock in the morning. Perhaps, to fetch some rotten food somewhere on the streets. At mid day, came here to rest in our parking place (shed). After taking some hours of rest, again goes outside for perhaps meeting his friends. Exactly around seven o'clock in the evening , came back to sleep here in our shed. So leisurely thinking in a carefree posture. On  any small sound made by commuters in the night, our dog keeps sending out warning growls. So it has become a security guard on its own. One day, evening , I brought some mysuru bonda for the dog. It devoured all of them so happily. You should see the feeling of the gratitude in its beaming eyes.

Every evening, I started offering some food and water. Some people wondered when  I have been feeding the stray dog. Our dog may not be a foreign breed but one core quality is there in it. Faithfulness and respecting its feeder. A small boy asked me one day, "uncle what's your dog's name..?", I was really ashamed to have not named it till then. All of a sudden, I stammered "yes, our dog name is Bruce". This dog is a street fighter and just like a  Bruce Lee for me. Don't care what others think of it. Everyday, Our Bruce keep waiting for me for the food and a little talk. It sounds so happily whenever I talk to him. He understands simple Telugu and English words.

There are so many things to write. I keep writing whenever time permits me.

Rue in French language

#R For Rue in French Language

On the pretext of this challenge , let me recall the word Rue in French language. It's meaning Street. I have come cross this word when I had been in Pondicherry in the year of 2019. Rue Saint Gills was the name of that street , got clicked the board for fun. All you know very well, Pondy was the strong bastion of the French once upon a time. I am not going to describe all that history again. French names were seen in many places and we were helpless recalling the moments vanished in thin air. Visited Maha Samadhi of Sri Aurobindo and Mother in the Ashram. Ambiance was calm and serene, well maintained educational institutions and other establishments were there. Here I am posting two pics of the place.

Q For Quotation of Napoleon Bonaparte

#Q For Quotation of Napoleon Bonaparte

Quotations move us sometimes. In fact, they trigger action in us. The people who experienced a lot in some field would put their soul in the words are the real ones to move inner self of any reader. That kind of words come spontaneously while they speak or write, later they will be remembered as quotations. Some people write quotations for quotations sake. Then they sound lifeless and pale. Most of the famous quotes taken from various writers belonged to some novels or stories. They might have told in some other context but it will be applicable universally. That's how great quotes are born and can be lived forever.

Here, see the quotation of Napoleon Bonaparte. When I read it for the first time, It made me think twice about it's meaning and context. I was thinking about a soldiers prime virtue as courage itself  but after going through the words given above, I was thoughtful and convinced myself . Yes, endurance of fatigue is the prime requisite for a soldier, then only his courage to shown in the field. Such a deep quotation. Napoleon with his vast experience in the battles might come to that conclusion.

Photo Journalism

 #P For Photo Journalism

What is Photo Journalism..? We experience it everyday. Get influenced by it. Sometimes we do recall who reported particular news item in the news paper but hardly we thought of photo journalists. A good photograph's impact is much intensive rather than words, which explains even where words fail to tell something. Whatever the happening and wherever it takes place. For instance, here I have given two pics. About the ready to collapse old school building. See, and understand how it looked like.

We could understand much more than thousands of words !

Orissa Temple

 #O For Orissa Temple

Architecture of Orissa always enthralls me for its rich and creative constructions, that too, the temples have very unique design compared to other Indian states. The spiraling structure with statues and intricate wall decoration. Mostly red sand used in many prominent temples like Kedareswara temple, Lingaraja temple and Raja rani temple. I don't know any other state's capital city like Bhubaneswar as having plethora of ancient temples. The above pic of Kedareswar temple was captured when I visited Bhubaneswar.

N For Nostradamus of India

#N For Nostradamus of India (Brahmam Garu)

We all knew that Nostradamus and his reputation for prophecies he made in view of western world. Hitler's rise during WW 2  and attack on twin towers of Newyork and so on are the events he had foreseen in his book "Les Propheties" and he used 942 poetic quatrains to accomplish his work of future predictions. In the same way, we also have one Nostradamus for our country and he had been less known outside Telugu  states for different reasons. He had also written his future predictions or prophesies in his magnum opus work "Kaala Jnaanam" in a poetic way.  His name was Pothuluri Veera Brahmendra Swamy, and also fondly called by "Brahmam garu" in short.

(The great seer and Nostradamus of India)

No introduction about him is needed for Telugu people. He was a great yogi, philosopher, reformer and future predictor. He was born in 16th century and had foreseen hundreds of years ahead of his time. If any significant event happened, many people thought of "Kaala Jnaanam" whether it had mentioned in or not. Brahmam garu, first, started telling his predictions to Garimireddy Achamma garu of Banaganapalli, now it's in Kadapa district. Later on, he propagated in his travels to different places. By accepting a Muslim and a Dalit as his disciples, he practiced that what he preached. In those remotest times, that was really a most courageous act even in terms of spiritual instruction.

(On palm leaf, Kaala Jnaanam)

Here are some of his predictions ( proved right too)

1. A widow lady would rule the country  (Mrs. Indira Gandhi)

2. White faced people come and rule our country  (The British people)

3.A Vyshya (Business caste) community man would rise to get freedom  (Mahatma Gandhi)

4.Equality of two genders would prevail in all respects in future

5.Brahmins do all kinds of business including footwear in future

6.Hybridization prevails in plants and human beings as well

7.Screen people would rule in future  (Like MGR, Jayalalitha and NTR)

And many many predictions like these Brahman Garu said in his future book of Kaala Jnaanam. Some got proved and some are waiting to be proved. His teachings and predictions are sometimes direct and sometimes cryptic, symbolic and poetic muse. One thing should be told here, else, which would have been incomplete in spirit. Famous actor and former chief minister NTR produced a movie, himself as the hero, on this great seer titled " Sri Madviraat Pothuluru Veera Brahmendra swamy vaari charitra". If possible try to watch for more details.

Maharaja Swathi Thirunal

#M For Maharaja Swati Thirunal Palace & Museum

A Few months back, visited Thiruvanthapuram (Trivandrum) on a personal work. Being in Kerala is not new for me and on one occasion almost 10 years back, visited Kottayam and stayed there for one week. Second time, when I was in Mysore to take translation lessons from CIIL, got into nearby places like Sultan bathery of Kerala. Eye feasting greenery and cleanliness are the ones I like most about that state. When I was in Trivandrum, in my leisure, roaming across railway station and other streets just for a purpose of sight seeing. Padmanabha Swamy temple came to my mind and called an auto to go there, it's not so far that I found in my inquiries.

Don't think that I am a staunch devotee of Anantha Padmanabha swamy. And Am not a hater of him either. I gave up idol worship long back, keep following Yoga sadhana only. I neither love nor hate any God or Prophet in particular. With curiosity both Bible and Quran were read along with Hindu scriptures, what I understood from my reading is all religions were different on surface but in deeper they all have one eternal message. After prophets, different followers said different interpretations according their own limitations. The same is happened with Hindu scriptures. On the pretext of "Bhashyams" , most of the texts were distorted.

We should not make sweeping comments on any prophets with our limited knowledge of worldly factual acquisition. That's what my policy. Well, let me come to the point. Visited the temple and found it not so rush on that day. All that street ,most of the shops were belonged to golden ornaments. One must see, the fort and Museum adjacent to the temple. It was built by Swati Tirunal Marthanda Varma in 18th century. The fort has 122 rooms altogether. Museum filled with precious olden paintings, crafts, swords, spears, Imported antique items and so on. Travancore king defeated and captured Dutch army in 1741, Aug 10. And many new things we could learn from these treasure troves.

Lone Fox Dancing

 #L For Lone Fox Dancing

"Lone Fox Dancing " is the autobiography of the renowned author Ruskin Bond. He is one of my favorite writers. I happened to read many of his stories. What I like in him is his non complicated narrative with a sweet way of telling any kind of story. Empathy, that's what we feel about his characters. His intricate details about every insect, plant, shrub, animals and places just awesome , that's how children and adults as well get attracted to his style of writing. Most of his stories sound like his own experiences in the hills of Himalayan prone areas like Simla, Mussori and Dehra etc.

My doubt proved somewhat right after reading this book of autobiography. Descriptions in his real life just made me recall some characters in his novels and stories. "The Room on the roof" novella is an excerpt from his childhood and adolescent part of life. Every reader could grasp it from this book. Ruskin Bond revealed many of his brighter and darker sides of  life. This book is published by Speaking tigers. Book cover is very nice and photographs given in the book were worth watching as they would speak volumes. Available with Amazon.

Kandy of Sri Lanka

 #K For KANDY

Let me recall my days at Kandy of Sri Lanka. I visited Sri Lanka in the year of 2018. It was purely a tour with some like minded people. Thank God it was before Corona and Economic and political crisis. Kandy is the most beautiful city apart from it's significance as a city of Temple of  Buddha's tooth relic. The temple was seemed full rush with travelers and devotees on that day. Mostly people looked like from Thailand, Korea and Japan. And of course, some Europeans were too there. White lotus flowers were being offered to the Lord Buddha. Temple was very grandeur with Sri Lankan architecture, timber used in large scale apart from paintings inside.

Beside the Kandy's Buddha tooth relic temple, there were beautiful gardens, lakes and other statues. Temple was in white color. Premises and inside the temple was also looked clean and calm except in the time of rituals. This temple has a connection with India. Here, Tooth relic of Buddha preserved was sent by a Kalinga king during 4 AD, by sea route. Received at  Anuradha pura by a king and it was later sent to Kandy. Present temple housed the holy relic of Buddha and many devotees started to come here right from some hundreds of years.

Entry fee was 1000 Sri Lankan rupees. At the airports of Sri Lanka, exchange for Indian currency was not available. So I have taken it outside in the market. Kandy temple appeared to me just like an other temple in our country. With white lotus flowers, coconuts and incense sticks all over there to offer the Lord Buddha. Houses seemed a bit like Kerala traditional houses with slope angles. I thought of Buddha's journey via our country. Those who gave up everything for a greater cause, definitely their aura would spread all over the world.

Joyful moment

 # J For Joyful

Some days back, early in the morning, checked my whatsap messages. And got Joyful instantly seeing one particular message. It was a message sent by a research scholar, named by Dileep from a university, as he has gone my article on the novel "The God Father" authored by Mario Puzo. It has been placed in Nava Telangana daily, last year, publishing from Hyderabad.  Usually I keep writing for many Telugu journals. Readers used to call me by phone to say thanks and sometimes we start a conversation on the subject. I have had many many good friends in this way. And of course, there were some crooked critics, their only duty was to hurt others. I don't entertain their antics.

Receiving a message from a Ph.d research scholar in appreciation of my article is something substantial and which could have helped him in some way. That's good. I didn't know who he was, in person. But his name was Dileep. Phone number was there to call him back. But I thanked him by a message as well. With my hectic work plans , I couldn't call him back. Comparing to English, our capacity of expression in vernacular language is usually commendable, it's so with me. Perhaps such quality is inbuilt in every human being.

Haunted House

 #H For Haunted House

Well, in my previous post, I told you about Ghost details. As most of the people are scaring to open up in the issues like this for different reasons, me too scarcely discuss with other people. Here, I am comfortable. And also no face to face interaction with my blog readers. That makes me energetic to put my experience in a few words. I don't know how people will receive it but want to be read by some enthusiasts and react if there were any with same kind of experience. This incident has become a part of my life when I was living in my hometown on the work of a new house construction.

It happened almost 25 years back. I have taken a rented room in front of  the newly construction site. Construction has been started and taking progress day by day. After finishing off day time work, masons and his helpers were used to go to their homes. The place where I have taken a rented room was comfortable reasonably with other residents living in their own homes. I was sleeping in my room but feeling some uneasy, inexpressible to say. No nightmares or any of that sort, but felt somebody's presence in the room. And there was no person to see.

After almost a week, one night I was sleeping on my bed. In fact, it was not a deep sleep, aware of sounds of surrounding places. One hand slowly started caressing my back. First I didn't care. Then slowly that hand moving up to my waist. Yes, feeling it in my flesh and blood. My God, something wrong. Startled myself. I tried hard to open my eyes. Struggling and struggling to open my eyes. No, they were not opening. That hand was not stopping and now some ladylike entity perched on my back. Yes, I was still feeling.

All of a sudden, I reminded my spiritual Guru's name incessantly in my inner self. Amazingly, that scary entity's influence subsided slowly. Then my eyes got opened. Got up from the bed and helped myself with some water. The very next day, on my inquiries , I came to know that a teenage girl had committed suicide due to a love affair, just to backside of my rented room. Once upon a time, I used to defy the presence of Ghost and God alike. My own experiences can be dissected into many layers before this incident. Meditation or Dhyaanam opened new doors for me. I will write all that whenever time permits me in the days to come.

Do you have any "Ghost" experience ?

 #G For Ghost

Do you have any Ghost experience ? or scared of being seen ?

Some people used to tell us what others have experienced and rarely tell us what they experienced. Why ? inhibitions. Fear out of being branded yourself as a person with irrational mindset. In this vast world, there are lot of unexplored things and they will always be hard nuts to crack. Through the lens of material science , we will never get witness to show others. But they make us experience in a subtle way. They always live in our secret thoughts. But expressing in proper words are very difficult. Sometimes, reveal symbolic through five elements and sometimes gross but dreamlike.

However daring we are, we get scared, startled and a moment thoughtful. We can not rubbish our own experience. Its piercing chill unleashes our inner self. We can't lie to ourselves. Our logic, reason and so on seem failed or unanswered. All the knowledge earned until then is different. Its tools are different. Clueless we remain. Then many charlatans appear before us to set them right. A time of getting confused furthermore. In my life, I have had an experience with a Ghostlike one.

When ?

Where ?

How ?

Want to know all these ?

I will write it in the next post. Yes H post.

Until then

Bye , bye..!!!
